6 Weeks PS - I can spin again!

I know the title doesn't make sense unless you have seen me get excited. One of the things I do (or used to do) was spin around in a circle before every meal. It's my way of saying "hurry up, I'm starving!". Remember, I can't talk so I have to somehow tell the Boss that he is slow. Well I have not been able to do this for a while and he seems to have been getting slower and slower walking to the big room with my food. I started to tell him to hurry up a couple days ago, but today I can do it really good. I even did it when we went outside just to show off. Then I grabbed a stick and tried to play keep-away with Cassidy. The Boss yelled at me so I hid behind the deck.

But I can spin again!

It really does feel like spring. The other day Cassidy and I got to lay out on the deck for a while catching some rays. It sure feels good!

Yesterday there was a tragedy though. I have been told by the guys at the dog park that it could happen one day. Yesterday it did. While I have been doing my job fixing the ears on New Pooh and playing with Old Pooh and Big Pooh, the Boss has been getting behind on his work. I learned from the Girl about playing 'monster' and just like her I get a little carried away some times.

Yesterday I was playing monster with New Pooh and all of a sudden there was white stuff on the floor. The Boss came and took New Pooh away to the emergency room. (It is on the counter in the kitchen where they keep the food.) Worst of all, Big Pooh and Old Pooh were already in the emergency room. Now what do I do?

The Boss must have felt sorry for me because he got out the needle and thread and went back to work. I sat there, at his feet, staring at him for 45 minutes while he sewed up my Poohs one by one. Each time he finished one I would take Pooh by his arm from the Boss and put him down next to me. Then I would go back to staring at the Boss while he worked on the next one. Cassidy knew I felt bad so she came over to sit with me while we waited for Old Pooh to be finished. It is really hard to have to wait for your Poohs to be fixed.

There are good things too. I get to walk around the circle almost every day now. Every once in a while I even get to go in the woods. Cassidy still gets to go on longer walks than me. Lucky dog!

I have to say though that there is nothing better than a good belly rub after a walk.
I also get to stand out front and guard the house more. Got to see if the neighbor kids will come bring me treats. I always check their pockets when they pet me.
Time to go see if the Treat Lady brought me back something good with the loud bags from the grocery store and then take a nap.

5 Weeks PS and it feels like Spring

Well first the Treat Lady went away for a whole bunch of meals and then the Boss went away for a whole lot of meals. When they are gone I can't get at the computer to tell you how things are going. You'll just have to catch my tweets. If only the Treat Lady would keep her cell phone charged.

The weather is finally getting nice out and I can go walk around without a leash for a little bit. I am still hooked up almost all the time, but every once in a while the Boss lets me trot a little and pretend I'm normal.

Over a week ago I promised that I'd show you what Cassidy did while the Boss was out. Here it is:

Can you believe that she would be so naughty. Cassidy sneaks into the bathroom and then tears the heck out of the roll of toilet paper. One time I think she ate the whole thing. No wonder we have wads of paper all over the yard when the snow thaws.

The Girl came home for a little bit and then she and the Treat Lady disappeared for many meals. Cassidy and I missed them really bad. The Boss does not give us hardly any treats when he is the only one here with us. We were so excited to see the Treat Lady and the Girl when they came back that we almost fell down again wagging our tails. We also got really excited when they gave me New Pooh and Cassidy got Silly Piglet!

Here is what they look like in their passport pictures. The first thing I did was fix New Pooh's ears. They were way too big!

Then, while everyone was upstairs I went around the house and gathered up all my toys and took them into the man cave. I did it all myself. I even got Stupid Elephant and Silly Piglet. While I was in there the Boss came in a found me with all the toys. At least he didn't take them away.

Well it is time for me to go find a treat and take a nap. I leave you with a piece of art that the Girl just put up in our home. I am the good looking one on the lower right.

Rehab III - 4 weeks PS

Yes it was another visit to rehab today. I knew we were going to go when I saw the Boss putting the towel on the seat in the back of his car. When Cassidy and I got back from our short after dinner walk I went right to the car and sat there to wait for the Boss. He had to put Cassidy in the house and then he came back out just like I knew he would. He didn't even have to tell me.

I was excited about going today. I like the therapy tank. I walked right to the door when we got out of the car. The only thing that still bugs me is the elevator. When we're in it I hide behind the Boss and peek out through his legs until the door opens and I can bolt out again.

I had a new Therapy Girl today. She was talking to the Boss about something and then she started telling him how good I was doing. She told him how I looked great and how nice I was walking. I went for more than 15 minutes today. I'm sure she told the Boss I am number one!

After therapy I got to see my doctor again. We got good news and bad news today. The bad news was expected though. The good news is that my leg is healing well and that he rated my progress excellent! (I'm number 1). The bad news is that my other leg has gotten worse and that I have to get it fixed too. April 7th is the day I go in to get my right leg repaired. I just have to work on getting more muscle in my left so that it will hold me up by then.

Cassidy is still the lucky dog. She gets to watch her favorite show almost every night. Here she is sitting like a princess on the sofa. I don't get to go on the sofa. I like it when the Boss comes in and tells her to get off. The good thing though is that the Treat Lady saw this guy giving his dogs bananas as a treat. I know I told her before they were the best! Now we get some every day!

It also snowed again yesterday. We had fun getting all wet and muddy. Poor little miss Cassidy just doesn't like the wash tub in the mud room after our walks. Boo hoo Cassidy. Wait till the Boss sees what she did in the bathroom while he was at work.

Time to go stare at the treat jar and take a nap.

Training for the Sports Show - 4 weeks PS

So the State sport show is taking place right now at the county fair grounds. They have all kinds of good contests going on. Dogs are competing on obedience, distance jumping, speed retrieving and other fun things. I would win all of these except the obedience competition but who wants to win that anyways! My best event would be the speed eating contest. Kind of like the hotdog or watermelon eating contests at the State Fair. I have been in training for this since I was a puppy. The Boss tries to slow me down by putting my food on a cookie sheet, but I still am awesome. It's like training at high altitude I think.

Check out my cookie sheet speed.

Now here I am at regular speed with my food dish. This is not sped up at all. I really am this fast!

The toughest part about this type of competition is waiting for the go signal. It is like a fire hose is in my mouth and I try like heck to keep it all in my mouth, but the drool just slips out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In between training we had a visitor recently. The Boss had a friend over with his Yellow Lab puppy named Mia. Cassidy went outside to play with Mia right away. She's such a lucky dog.
Here I am playing with Mia
Here is Cassidy playing with Mia
Okay, I did actually get outside with the little puppy squirt. I think the Boss didn't let me out right away because we both scare youngsters (the Boss and me). I had to stay on the leash, but I did get to push Mia around a little with my nose.
Even though I didn't get to run at all my legs are really sore from playing with that puppy. Yes, both my legs. Turns out that pulling on my leash is hard on my other leg too. I know I'm going to have to get that knee cut too, just don't know when yet.
I still get to walk around the kitchen where they keep all the food. The Treat Lady still falls for the stare at the treat box trick. As long as that keeps working all is good.
I better go try it again and then take a nap.
The Treat Lady is on to me
The Treat Lady went and looked up Labrador Retrievers on Wikipedia. This is what it said:
The Labrador is the most popular breed of dog in the world, and is by a large margin the most popular breed by registration in the United States ...They are exceptionally affable, gentle, intelligent, energetic and good natured, and Labradors are generally considered good companions for people of all ages.... [WELL DUH!]
Labradors have a well-known reputation for appetite....They are persuasive and persistent in requesting food. For this reason, the Labrador owner must carefully control his/her dog's food intake to avoid obesity and its associated health problems...Labs can easily become overweight, due to their blatant enjoyment of treats, hearty appetites, and endearing behaviour towards people. Lack of activity is also a contributing factor. A healthy Labrador should keep a very slight hourglass waist and be fit and light, rather than fat or heavy-set. Excessive weight is strongly implicated as a risk factor in the later development of hip dysplasia or other joint problems and diabetes, and also can contribute to general reduced health when older. Osteoarthitis is commonplace in older, especially overweight, Labs. A 14-year study conducted by Purina showed that dogs which were fed a diet to maintain a lean body shape outlived dogs fed ad libitum by 15% or two years for the 48 dogs in the study stressing the importance of proper feeding. [OH CRAP]
So now she's very stingy with the treats, just like the Boss. Help! Please send treats ASAP !!! I am big boned and I'm starving!
Back to Rehab 3 weeks PS
I love it when my friends write to me. I got a note from my cousin Hank and another from my neighbor Buddy. Good to hear that you guys aren't in lock down like me. I even got to see my neighbor Buddy out by the mailbox. I was trying to say hello and then he ran away from me and had to go in the kitchen.
It sure was cold out again today. It would be nice if it either warmed up or if we had more snow. I slipped on the ice when I was out walking. Nothing major. It just startled me a little. I sure am glad I didn't hurt anything.
I had to go in for PT today too. This was my second time. Everything was great until I had to go in that elevator again. That thing just gives me the creeps. I am convinced somebody bought the farm in there. It smells funny and it makes my stomach feel really weird.
When we got out of the elevator I remembered the squishy floor and pulled the Boss over to the tank room. When Therapy Girl opened the door to the tank I walked right in and then had to wait while the room filled with water. This is more fun than slipping around on the ice. The water is nice and warm too.
I know you want to see it so here is my new MV. (That's music video. I'm going to get on MTV soon.)
They doubled my time in the tank from my last session. Therapy Girl said that was unusual but I was doing so good she wasn't worried. The blue bumpers on the sides keep me walking straight ahead instead of wandering side to side. Therapy Girl also said I am doing better than the other dogs that had surgery the same day as me. I am beating the Golden Retriever, the Bull dog, the Burmese Mountain dog and the Chocolate Labs too. Nobody is looking as strong as I am. I also don't limp at all. I'm number one!
When I got home the Treat Lady gave me lots of treats before she took Cassidy for a long walk. Cassidy sure is a lucky dog.
Well I'm going to go stare at the treat jar for a while. The Treat Lady falls for this every time. After that I'll go take a nap.
